Bengaluru: On the backdrop of Invest Karnataka Meet 2016 to be held in the first week of February, the Bengaluru city traffic police have made certain temporary restrictions for private buses.

In order to ensure smooth flow of traffic, the movement of all long distance contract carriage private buses and All India permit buses are restricted outside the Outer Ring Road in the city from 7 am to 10 pm between February 1 and February 5.

The police said this has been done to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety of the delegates and VVIPs participating in the event. They urged the public and others concerned to cooperate.

The movement of all types of small and medium sized goods vehicles on the following roads connecting to the venue (Palace Grounds), have been prohibited from 6 am am to 10 pm between February 1 and February 5.

Transport Minister R. Ramalinga Reddy expressed his dissent to the government’s decision to ban the entry of tourist buses and trucks into the city for five days from February 1-5.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Arvind Jadhav. The government had taken this decision on the presumption that the movement of these vehicles would cause traffic congestion during Global Investors Meet. Nearly six lakh people use private tourist buses every day.

Acknowledging that the decision would cause inconvenience the public, the Transport Minister clarified that the transport department had no role in taking this decision.

“Under Section 113 of the Indian Motor Vehicle Act, the police are vested with the power to ban movement of vehicles. They have taken this decision,” he said.

Mr Reddy said he had written a letter to Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar requesting the police to relax the ban. In the light of upcoming Global Investors Meet-2016, Bengaluru police have issued a notification banning all private buses during the five-day event.

Buses will be allowed to ply only at night between 10 pm and 7 am. The transport department has identified few areas like Tumakuru Road, Hosur Road, Kanakapura Road, Mysore Road from where the BMTC buses will pick the passengers to their respective destinations.
