Bhatti: BRS Used Outdated Tech at Bhadradri Power Plant

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday criticised the BRS government's decision to employ outdated subcritical technology at the Bhadradri Thermal Power Station, stating that it has not only led to increased expenditure in raw materials but has also resulted in environmental pollution issues.

During his inspection of the plant and discussions with power sector and Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (BTPS) officials at Manuguru, Bhatti, who oversees the power and finance portfolios, expressed concern over the state of the power sector in Telangana. He blamed the previous BRS government's policies for the current financial woes of the power sector, prompting the release of a white paper on the matter.

Bhatti revealed that the power sector is currently burdened with loans amounting to Rs 85,516 crore, excluding the Rs 28,842 crore owed by the government to power utilities. Additionally, utilities owe Rs 59,580 crore to coal suppliers and other entities. Stressing the urgency of dedicated efforts, coordination, and proper planning, he emphasised the need to ensure the effective functioning of the power sector and to guarantee a stable power supply to the people.
