Hyderabad: Cyber crime cases increased in Cyberabad in the course of this year.
Anonymity, remote location of the accused persons, concealed identity, use of fake SIM cards etc pose serious challenges to an investigation of cyber crimes. A massive public awareness campaign is ongoing in Cyberabad to prevent cyber crimes, officials said.
About 282 cases of cyber crime were registered in 2018 and 70 cases were cracked. About 184 persons were arrested and property worth '4,26,13,463 was recovered from their possession, a recovery percentage of 29 per cent.
“With increasing use of technology there has been a spurt in cyber crimes throughout the country where fraudsters use hi-tech methods to cheat gullible victims. The victims get a call from the fraudsters pretending to be bank officials, and innocently divulge critical information including CVV numbers, OTP etc of their credit/debit cards. This information is used to make fraudulent transactions,” said the Cyberabad police commissioner.
