Oppn, BC leaders stage dharna at district HQs
Hyderabad: Demanding the withdrawal of ordinance issued by state government reducing the BC reservations in panchayat polls, leaders of all Opposition parties and BC organisations staged dharnas before the collectorates across Telangana state on Saturday. They demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao holds an all-party meeting to discuss the BC reservation issue.
Meanwhile, former MP and AICC secretary V. Hanumantha Rao, on the directions of the party high command, discussed this issue with senior party leader and advocate Kapil Sibal at Delhi on Saturday. He said the party would file a review petition in the Supreme Court on this.
Earlier, the Supreme Court has directed that the total reservations in a state should not cross 50 per cent. Mr Hanumantha Rao alleged that the Telangana government was doing injustice to the people by reducing the reservations to around 24 per cent from 34 per cent. He said the BC reservations in local bodies should be according to the proportion of their population. He alleged that Mr Chandrasekhar Rao changed his attitude towards the BCs after his victory in Telangana Assembly elections.
Former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah also termed the Ordinance as “anti-people”.
