GHMC removes 620 footpath encroachments
Hyderabad: Enforcement vigilance and disaster management teams of the GHMC on Saturday removed 620 footpath encroachments on the 2.8-km stretch from Shivam Raod to Amberpet Police Lines. This will bring to nearly 12,000 the number of encroachments removed this year.
Six teams comprising 20 personnel and equipment were deployed, one for each zone.
The drive was conducted in coordination with the traffic and law and order police.
The encroachments removed included 620 permanent structures.
EDVM director Viswajit Kampati said the drive had received an overwhelming response from the public.
Asked about commercial establishments or vendors re-encroaching footpaths, Mr Kampati, said the corporation would cancel the building permission for residential complexes and trade licences of commercial buildings if their occupants encroached on footpaths.
The director said properties would be seized in both cases.
Mr Kampati added that the corporation would not provide any rehabilitation to permanent encroachers but would accommodate push-cart vendors and hawkers in the vending zones earmarked at several locations in Hyderabad.
