Nagapattinam: A group of local fishermen from Samanthanpettai hamlet here was in for a big surprise of their life when they noticed a Burmese boat made in bamboo and resembling a traditional Myanmar house floating on the sea about five nautical miles off Nagapattinam shore on Saturday.

Official sources told DC that the fishermen who went near the boat, floating without any person inside, nevertheless had a few pictures and statues of Gautama Buddha and some puja materials.

The enterprising fishers sailing in another boat then towed the house boat, measuring 20-feet long and 15-ft wide, with the help of a rope and brought it safely to the Nagapattinam shore, where scores of locals thronged to have a glimpse of the foreign boat.

On information, coastal security police and the Q branch police visited the boat and are investigating whether the Burmese fishermen sailing by that boat had either possibly drowned or had jumped out of the vessel and gone somewhere.
