CBD only for revellers on foot, cops ban vehicles near MG, Brigade Roads

The biggest move by traffic police is the introduction of a number of diversions, \"for public convenience\".

Bengaluru: With the mass molestation incident at Church Street still seen as a huge blot on policing, the city traffic police are moving every resource at hand to ensure that there is no repeat of December 2016-January 2017. And it starts off - in the interest of public safety and convenience - with a complete clampdown on the movement of all vehicular traffic on the night between December 31, 2017 and January 1, 2018. In other words, no traffic in the Central Business District!

No vehicles except those providing essential services will be allowed on M.G. Road, between Anil Kumble Junction and Mayo Hall Junction, and on Brigade Road up to the Opera Junction, from any direction from 8 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1.

The no traffic restriction also applies to Church Street, Museum Road, from its junction with M.G. Road up to Old Madras Bank Road, Rest House Road from its junction with Museum Road up to Brigade Road, Kamaraj road, and Residency Cross Road.

Flyovers
There is also the customary ban as there is every new year, on entry of vehicles on all flyovers barring the Hebbal flyover from 9 pm, December 31 to 6 am, January 1 as a precaution against accidents.

Diversions
The biggest move by traffic police is the introduction of a number of diversions, "for public convenience". After 8 pm on December 31, vehicles coming from the direction of the Queen's Statue junction on M.G. Road and proceeding towards Halasuru and beyond will have to turn left at Anil Kumble Circle, and at B.R.V. Junction, then turn right into Cubbon Road and proceed to join M.G. Road from near Webb's junction.

Vehicles coming from Trinity Circle on M.G. Road will have to take a right at the Webbs junction, and turn left at Manipal Centre into Cubbon Road.

Those driving to Cantonment from Halasuru will have to take a right near Trinity Circle and enter Halasuru Road, then turn left on Dickenson Road and proceed towards Cubbon Road.

Parking of all types of vehicles will be prohibited from 4 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1 on M.G. Road, from Jewel de Paragon Junction up to Trinity Circle, Cubbon Road, Residency Road, Richmond Road, Infantry Road, Brigade Road, up to Old Ashok Nagar Police Station Junction, Church Street, Museum Road, Queens Road, Rest House Road, Kamaraj Road, from Cauvery Arts and Crafts junction up to Dickenson Junction, St Marks Road, Magrath Road, Commissariat Road, Markham Road, Main Guard Cross Road , Dispensary Road and 100 feet Road, Indiranagar.
