Anna University declares semester results in record time
Chennai: After trimming the number of exams by not giving any concessions to older students, Anna University has declared the odd semester results in a record time of just 29 days. “Usually, the results will be announced around January 26. This year, after bringing down the number of exam days we are able to release the results well in advance,” said G.V. Uma, Controller of Examinations, Anna University.
The university has barred the candidates who have joined in engineering courses before 2011 as they crossed the maximum period of study as mentioned in the regulations. It has brought down the number of exam days from 50 to 30 days.
“We have given answer keys to all papers and employed subject teachers to correct the answer scripts. It has helped us to complete the evaluation in two weeks,” she said.
For the first time over four lakh students received their results through SMS.
Totally, 5,25,000 students have written the semester exams and the university has evaluated 42 lakh answer scripts. Based on the answer scripts, 76 per cent have cleared the semester exams. The university now has decided to permit 12,914 candidates who have crossed the maximum period to clear their exams based on the humanitarian grounds. They will be allowed to write exams in February 2018.
While the university prepares 3,070 sets of question papers for over 6.53 lakh students it has to prepare 3,147 sets of question papers for these 12,914 students alone.The short span for exams will also allow the engineering graduates to undergo internships in various industrial establishments and companies, officials said.
