Tamil outfit's bid to send nooses' to Modi foiled
COIMBATORE: A fringe Tamil outfit, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK)’s bid to stage a novel protest against the cash crunch following the Centre’s demonetisation by attempting to send a few ‘nooses’ to the Prime Minister in Delhi, was foiled by Police, who arrested six of the TPDK cadre for plain nuisance here on Thursday.
A group of TPDK members led by general secretary K.Ramakrishnan came to the post office near the collectorate on Thursday and tried to send a ‘rope tied in the form of nooses’ to the Prime Minister to remind him how money flow has been strangulated.
Race Course police arrested the six persons including the general secretary of TPDK. Ramakrishnan later told the DC that even after 50 days after demonetisation announcement, cash flow has not improved. Many ATMs in the city remained closed. The ATMs filled with cash in the morning were emptied within 30 minutes, they rued.
There was no manpower to refill the ATMs’ continuously. Middle class people and the businesses of small scale units and traders were affected much and people had to wait all through the day in queues for money, the TPDK cadres said, adding, yet they were able to get just a Rs 2,000 note at the end of the day, as banks do not have sufficient cash.
Modi’s eyes have been blindfolded on this issue by vested interests, they alleged.
Demanding action to regularise the money supply, the TPDK made an attempt to send ‘nooses’ to the PM to also remind him that people were “committing suicide” due to lack of money. But police foiled their attempt.
