KTDC New Year bash to give differently-abled a leg-up
Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram District Tourism Promotion Council and Kerala Tourism are jointly organising a ‘Barrier-free and Drug-free’ New Year celebration at Thycaud Police Ground on December 31 with differently-abled artistes as the main performers.
Persons with different disabilities will display their skills in keyboard performance, calendar making, temperature prediction, fusion music, dance forms, cycle dance and satirical skit.
A performance by music band Thaikudam Bridge will be another highlight of the event. The celebrations would also convey anti-drug messages, said Tourism Director Mr. U V Jose.
Mayor V K Prasanth will inaugurate the celebrations that will begin at 7 pm. Shashi Tharoor MP will be the chief guest. Free passes for the event can be collected from DTPC office at Vellayambalam and tourist facilitation centre of the Tourism Department near Corporation office.
Boat services to be suspended
The boat services near Kovalam coastline will be suspended from 5 pm on December 31 as part of regulations for New Year celebrations, the city police said here on Thursday. Like the previous years, 12.30 am will be the unofficial deadline for citizens to clear off beaches and city streets after partying.
Revenue officers such as Tahasildar with executive magisterial powers will be present on beaches to monitor the situation. They will give special orders at places where revelry takes a riotous turn.
Vigil has been tightened at Kovalam, bypass roads and in heart of the city. Beat patrol and plain-clothed policemen have been asked to coordinate with residents association to oversee law and order situation.
Special drives will be conducted from December 31morning itself to keep anti-social elements away. Additional fire and rescue crew will be deployed in beaches and CCTVs will be installed around Kovalam beach.
