Congress scuttled prospects for jallikattu, says H Raja

He said former Union minister P. Chidambaram criticised the Mr Modi's demonetisation initiative with “an ulterior motive.â€

Chennai: BJP national secretary H. Raja blamed the Congress for scuttling the prospects of ensuring jallikattu in Tamil Nadu and claimed that the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre will strive to facilitate the conduct of the traditional bull-taming sport.

“The Congress is responsible for preventing the conduct of jallikattu... the case is in the court…steps will be taken to ensure jallikattu,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at in Pudukottai district in the state, he said former Union minister P. Chidambaram criticised the Mr Modi’s demonetisation initiative with “an ulterior motive.”

“As our Prime Minister himself had said, after the 50-day deadline for completion of demonetisation process, there will a let up in the situation,” he said.

(However, there is a growing consensus among bankers that the restrictions on withdrawal is likely to continue even in the New Year so as to maintain orderly working at the banks. Banks at many places are still not in a position to disburse even the present limit of Rs 24,000 per week due to cash crunch and are rationing the valid currency depending on cash availability.)

Taking at dig at TNCC chief Su Thirunavukarasar for taking a “pro-AIADMK stand” Mr Raja said the Congress president (who had shifted loyalty from the BJP) indicated that he would soon join the AIADMK.

“The TNCC chief said had he been with the AIADMK he will become chief minister. Further, he has taken a pro-AIADMK stand. Very soon news that he has joined the AIADMK will be received,” he claimed.
