Sri City-based BeRolleX Plays Pivotal Role in Rescuing Trapped Tunnel Workers

TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh’s Sri City-based BeRolleX Industries has played a key role in the multi-agency efforts to rescue the 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel.

The breakthrough came on November 25 when the on-site rescue crew encountered issues with an Auger drilling machine that had become stuck, bringing drilling to a halt. Seeking a solution, the authorities contacted Satheesh Reddy, former chairman of the DRDO, who mobilised expert agencies. Answering the call for urgent help was BeRolleX's managing director, Y. Srinivas Reddy, who proposed using plasma cutting to remove the stuck blades.

In just three hours, BeRolleX readied two portable plasma cutting machines and dispatched a three-member expert team, including Santosh Kumar, Ajay Shaw and Nagaraju.

With the government arranging a special IAF aircraft, the equipment and technicians quickly reached the site. The expert cutters then successfully navigated the narrow tunnel and cut the obstructing Auger blades in just hours.

Founder MD of Sri City, Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy commended the BeRolleX for their swift, innovative response and timely on-ground assistance. He said that they were honoured to have BeRolleX as part of the Sri City community.

“The removal of the stuck blades was pivotal in advancing the rescue efforts and manually clearing the tunnel to save the workers”, he added.
