AP Intensifies Vigil in Border Districts Over Telangana Polls

VIJAYAWADA: AP police have intensified vigil in districts bordering Telangana, which is going for assembly general elections on Thursday.

AP DGP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy said 40 check posts have been set up along the AP-Telangana border with teams of 15 civil police, five of special enforcement bureau, and three of forest department, apart from 17 integrated check posts of police, SEB, forest, commercial taxes and transport department.

The DGP said as many as 54 persons with rowdy sheets and a history of crimes have been arrested to avert any untoward incidents in the bordering districts. Police conducted 623 cordon and search operations in AP villages bordering Telangana. Rajendranath Reddy said 702 illicitly distilled liquor cases and 1,004 non-duty paid liquor cases have been registered, in addition to seven ganja cases in which 462 kilos of contraband has been seized, apart from 123 vehicles.

Further ₹7.55 lakh unaccounted cash has been seized. A freebies case has also been registered in which 208 sarees and a car have been seized. The DGP said the total monetary value of the seized property is ₹1.65 crore. He said 16 retail outlets, a bar, a tourism liquor outlet, and 83 toddy shops have been ordered closed during polls in Telangana.

Rajendranath Reddy said special teams of minimum 10 members each have been formed in border districts to concentrate on election-related issues.
