Thiruvananthapuram: House affected for second day
Thiruvananthapuram: The Assembly was disrupted for the second consecutive day on Thursday over the Sabarimala issue. The day’s session lasted hardly for 20 minutes.
As the proceedings of the day began, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala demanded suspension of the question-hour to consider an adjournment motion notice on the lack of facilities at Sabarimala.
However, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan declined the demand.
Mr Vijayan said that the Sabarimala issue had already figured in the house as adjournment motion notice on Wednesday and hence it need not be allowed.
As the Speaker went ahead with the question-hour proceedings, the opposition maintained that they were not cooperating with the question-hour and insisted on suspending the question-hour. They trooped into the well, shouting slogans and raising banners.
The speaker in the meantime invited Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran for replying a question over the SC verdict on women entry at Sabarimala.
As the opposition MLAs continued to shout slogans, he warned them to suspend the session. He also reminded about the criticism of Governor P. Sathasivam against unruly scenes in the house.
As the opposition continued the protest, he rushed through the proceedings and adjourned the house for the day
