Ramesh Chennithala wants joint panel to visit shrine
Thiruvananthapuram:The Opposition has said that a joint Assembly panel should visit Sabarimala to review the facilities available for the pilgrims.
Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala told reporters here that not even basic facilities were provided either for the devotees or officials. He alleged that the government did not allow any discussion in the Assembly on Sabarimala fearing that the situation there would be exposed.
"To study the lack of basic facilities at Sabarimala, a joint panel of the Assembly with members from both the UDF and the LDF should be deputed," he demanded.
He said that the number of devotees had come down drastically due to the police regulations and protests by the BJP-RSS workers.
The Opposition was forced to protest in the House on Thursday as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said that the adjournment motion should not be allowed as a related matter was raised in the House on Wednesday.
When asked about Governor P. Sathasivam’s criticism on the protests in the Assembly, Mr. Chennithala said that the governor seemed to be unaware of the protests staged by the LDF in the previous Assembly.
