Police launches toll-free number for senior citizens

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram city police on Thursday launched a 24-hour toll free number for senior citizens - 180059911111.

Senior citizens can call on the number for giving any complaints and even for seeking emergency helps like medical aid. The calls will be received at police control room and from there it will be diverted to the police station concerned. The Janamaithri citizen relation officer of the police station would take necessary steps, City police commissioner P Prakash said in a statement.

State police chief Loknath Behera launched the project here on Thursday. It is now being launched on trial basis and necessary changes will be made in future.

Mr. Prakash said that though the police tried to get a four digit toll free number that senior citizens could easily remember, it would take at least time to be get the number allotted. But in due course an easy to remember number would be introduced.

The city commissioner said that a website for senior citizens to register their details would be also launched soon. Senior citizens will be able to file complaints on the proposed portal and could also check status of petitions.
