Sriharikota: Isro is all set to establish 29 additional facilities at Shar to enhance the production at the solid propellant space booster plant (SPORB) located in Shar.
The plant is now working to deliver 12 S139 (PSLV first stage) motors by 2019 end, which is double its present capacity.
Shar officials revealed this while celebrating the completion of 1,000th solid motor casting at the plant on Wednesday. The function was presided over by Isro chairman Dr K. Sivan.
According to Isro engineers, solid propulsion plays an important role in rockets. The reliability, simplicity, easy scalability and high thrust capability of a solid propulsion system makes it a preferable solution for a launch vehicle.
For developing the essential expertise in large rocket motors, the plant was established at Sriharikota and commissioned in 1977.
