Hyderabad HC tells police to provide security to transgender

When the police produced Chandramukhi before the bench as per its direction, the judges asked her about whereabouts for two days.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the Telangana police to give protection to Ms Chandramukhi, the transgender candidate of the Bahujan Left Front from Goshamahal.

A division bench comprising Justice Raghvendra Chauhan and Justice M. Satyanarayana Murthy was dealing with a habeas corpus petition by Ms Chandramukhi’s mother seeking a direction to the police to produce the candidate before the court. She had been reported missing on Tuesday but turned up at the police station on Wednesday night.

When the police produced Chandramukhi before the bench as per its direction, the judges asked her about whereabouts for two days. Ms Chandramukhi said unidentified persons had threatened her and taken away to Vijayawada in an unconscious stage. The bench directed Registrar (Judicial) to record her statement. But in the statement she said she went voluntarily and was not detained by anyone.

Taking the statement of Ms Chandramukhi on record the bench closed the petition and directed the police to take steps to give protection since Ms Chandramukhi was contesting in the election.
