Hyderabad: 22 Kakatiya Medical College students suspended for boozing in hostel
WARANGAL: Twenty-two first and second-year students of Kakatiya Medical College were temporarily suspended after they were found violating several rules of the college.
According to sources, the birthday celebration of a third-semester student was held in the fresher’s block of the hostel building on Tuesday night, where students reportedly consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana. They were caught in an intoxicated state by the hostel warden the following morning.
K. Chandrashekar, the Principal of the college, said that though the students had been drinking, no marijuana was found in their rooms. He said that the parents of the 22 students found breaking the rules had been notified that their children were being placed under suspension.
“We have constituted an inquiry committee to look into the matter. The committee will submit its report by December 5. We will take further action after we receive the report,” the Principal said.
According to the rules, seniors are not allowed to enter the juniors’ block at night, and students are not allowed to bring food from outside into the hostel.
Apart from the students, three security personnel at the hostel were also suspended for allowing seniors to enter, and for allowing food and alcohol to be brought into the hostel.
