Hyderabad: Eleven days after being crowned Miss World, Manushi Chhillar, made her first trip to Hyderabad on Wednesday.
She was invited by the organisers of the GES-2017 for a fireside chat on day-two of the event. Speaking about her wish to work towards a better society, she said a person “need not be a Miss World to make a difference.”
The 20-year-old spoke about wanting to continue her medical education after two years, and also wanting to work on her pet-project to provide sanitary napkins to women in rural areas. “Providing menstrual hygiene pads to women in rural areas is my personal project. I have already reached out to 20 villages across India.
The project focuses on women’s health and hygiene. Every village must have access to basic resources such as sanitary pads,” she said.
She said that as soon as she won the title of Miss World, her mother thanked her for the homage that she had paid to motherhood.
Manushi will soon take-off on a long journey spanning two continents accompanied by six other women holding various titles. “I will use this journey as a learning experience,” she said.
When asked if she had any plans to enter Bollywood, she said, “Bollywood is not on my mind as of now. I am interested in being an actor, but I can do a lot more as a doctor.”

Recalling the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who referred to women as “Shakti”, Ms Chhillar said, “There is a notion that business is a male-dominated world, however, we should put an end to this. Women should feel like they are equally capable.”
Her advice to women is, “Be confident, believe in yourself, trust what you can do, and be unapologetic about who you are.”
