Hyderabad: Customers are not able to get Rs 50 and Rs 200 notes at ATMs as banks are not interested in recalibrating machines with the specifications of the new notes.
“After demonetisation, we recalibrated all the ATMs between November 9 and January 31. Recalibration poses an additional burden as it is not a small task and very few technicians are available in the city. One of the three ATM maintenance agencies in the city has been withdrawing services in a phased manner. The remaining agencies are busy supplying cash every day,” said a bank official.
According to banks, customers are unlikely to get smaller denominations through ATMs for at least three more months.
M.S. Kumar, the secretary of the Bank Emp-loyees’ Federation, said that banks should take the initiative to provide smaller denominations through ATMs for the convenience of customers.
