APCRDA to face fresh set of charges in NGT
Visakhapatnam: Expressing that the TD government and AP Capital Region Development have misled the National Green Tribunal (NGT) by giving false declarations to get clearance for capital construction in Andhra Pradesh, E.A.S. Sarma, a former IAS officer and social activist along with Bolisetty Satyanarayana and Srimannarayana would file a revised petition in the NGT.
In a round-table conference on Amaravati – NGT Judgement here in Vizag city on Wednesday, the speakers said that former APCRDA Commissioner had given false declarations to the NGT citing that the proposed capital city in Andhra Pradesh was barren land and there was no agriculture. E.A.S. Sarma said that Sivaramakrishnan Committee had clearly mentioned that there should be no damage to agriculture and environment and that the expenditure should be restricted to a bare minimum.
Farmers in the capital region in the state had complained to the World Bank team that they were forced to part with their lands under threats by the police and the government officials. Speaking at the occasion Bolisetty Satyanarayana said that the capital area was located on the banks of the River Krishna, had a history of flooding. But, unfortunately, the APCRDA had denied these claims. The Andhra Pradesh government must have followed the guidelines and instructions of the NGT to mitigate the damage, he added.
