Only Indira Canteen food at BBMP Council meets
Bengaluru: Mayor Gangambike, who has been proactive in solving the problems faced by the people, has taken austerity measures to ensure that the BBMP does not spend much on food during council meetings.
She passed a resolution during the monthly meeting on Monday, stating that food prepared at Indira Canteen will be served at the BBMP during council meetings.
But the decision did not seem to have gone down well with most of the corporators, as not all of them had lunch served by Indira Canteen. Though the menu of the Indira Canteen was altered to look special, it failed to attract corporators.
A corporator, on condition of anonymity, said that he did not have lunch at the council, not because it was served from Indira Canteen, but because the meeting was adjourned before the lunch time. Also he had an appointment, he said.
However, Ms Gangambike, ruling party leader Shivaraju, BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad and a few others savoured the food served.
Till now, the BBMP was spending thousands of rupees on food served at council meetings. On some occasions, non-vegetarian food too was served which would cost the BBMP’s exchequer.
