Online cab drivers to launch call-based service
Kochi: A group of online cab drivers, who couldn't enjoy much returns during their stint with major cab aggregators, have come together and is all set to launch a car rental service, with focus on airport trips.
Kochi-based Online Cab Drivers Association (OCDA) will launch 'Savari Cabs' on November 14 which will be inaugurated by Ernakulam MLA Hibi Eden."We'll start with 250 cars, owned by those who were earlier working for Uber and Ola cab majors. However, ours won't be an online service to start with. Rather the customers need to call the dedicated number. The charges from various points in the city to the airport have been fixed in such a way that the commuters can avail lowest fares," said Shajo Jose, secretary, OCDA.
However, the association has approached traditional drivers operating from various taxi stands to be part of the initiative.
"The services will be available round the clock. The customers can avail the service by dialing 7511195959 or 8086695959. For other destinations, we'll be charging government-fixed rates (Rs 12/ km)," he said.
The minimum fare to airport is Rs 499 (from Kalamassery) while the maximum is Rs 1099 (Palluruthy, Kumbalangy and Aroor). An extra charge of Rs 200 will be charged tor trips during night.
