Hyderabad: Man robs bank using toy pistol

At about 3.30 pm on Monday, a person wearing a burkha entered Karur Vysya Bank in Manikonda.

Hyderabad: In order to pay his kids’ school fees and manage his family expenses, David Praveen, 45, a former Wipro employee robbed a bank by brandishing a toy pistol, wearing a burkha and showing a dummy bomb.

At about 3.30 pm on Monday, a person wearing a burkha entered Karur Vysya Bank in Manikonda. He pulled out a pistol and threatened to kill the cashier and demanded money.

Branch manager K.L. Mahendra Kumar and other staff ran towards him, but he threatened to shoot them and blow the place with a bomb.

The suspect beat the cashier Shiva Shankar and robbed Rs 2.5 lakh cash and ran out. People outside the bank caught him and pelted stones. He reportedly resorted to the crime as he lost his job four months ago. Raidurgam inspector M. Ram Babu said, “A robbery case has been registered on Praveen and an investigation is on.”
