Eluru: West Godavari SP M. Ravi Prakash warned of stern action against anyone flouting norms in selling fireworks across the district.
Taking part in a programme here on Monday, the SP said that only those having a licence can sell fire crackers at designated places. They need to comply with all safety norms. He asked the traders to keep adequate quantities of water, sand and fire extinguishing equipment at the shops in case of any unfortunate accidental fire.
He appealed to people to alert police on 100 in case ony complaint or post information on Whatsapp no. 8332959174 and assured not to disclose their identity.
The SP asked people to observe safeguard while lighting the fireworks like wearing lose cotton dresses. He asked the people to light the fireworks with long candles or agarbathis. He asked the people not to hold the fireworks in their hands while lighting them and also felt the need not to light them near petrol bunks, thatched houses and haystacks.
Earlier, the SP received complaints from as many as 55 persons from several parts in the district stating about a series of problems. Responding to them, the SP asked the concerned police officers to attend to their problems. With regard to land encroachment and other unlawful activities, the SP asked the people to lodge complaints at the respective police stations and assured to book criminal cases against culprits to provide them justice.
