Thiruvananthapuram: Though the CPM in no mood for a compromise with the NSS till it distances itself from the Sangh Parivar-led save Sabarimala movement, it is hopeful that Perunna will see through RSS game plan.
CPM leaders say the "namajapa yathras" organised by the NSS in different towns had created an anti-government environment in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict which was exploited by the Sangh Parivar. Moreover, NSS leadership had continued its attack on the government increasing the chasm between the two sides.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan even took a dig at the NSS leadership while speaking at PKS meeting in Palakkad on Sunday. He recollected the events that unfolded during Guruvayur satyagraha; ‘’As blows rained on him, Krishna Pillai continued to ring the bell and shout; Let the bold Nair ring the bell and let the other Nair (I don't want to mention which one) beat on his back." The CPM has also undertaken an exercise to connect directly with the rank and file of the NSS and caution them against aligning with Sangh Parivar. However, NSS sources refuted any camaraderie with Sangh Parivar. They said the credit for maintaining communal harmony in the state should go to NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair because of his unwavering equidistant policy.
Going by the "appeasement" of minorities by UDF and LDF, NSS should have become a natural ally of BJP long back. But that didn't happen. In fact NSS leadership has turned down the requests coming even from PM and Amit Shah to visit Perunna.
The NSS leadership clarified that it had nothing against LDF. "For nearly three years, we have not opposed the government on any issue. But Sabarimala is an issue of our faith. We are not saying that LDF government should not implement SC verdict. They are bound to do that and they have to do it. But there is a way to do it," said NSS sources.
The NSS cited the "opportunistic" stand taken by SNDP and BDJS. While SNDP maintains distance from BJP-Sangh Parivar, Thushar Vellapally who is not just BDJS chief but also vice-president of Yogam, leads Sabarimala march along with P S Sreedharan Pillai.
Meanwhile, a section of CPM leaders said NSS will not fall in the trap of RSS. "NSS is mature enough to understand the larger game plan of RSS. The Sangh is using Sabarimala issue as a cover to woo NSS supporters. But I am sure NSS leadership will keep RSS at bay," said M.B. Rajesh, MP.
Suresh Kurup MLA said the LDF was not averse to holding talks with any organisation. "Everyone should accept the court verdict. There is no barrier in holding discussions. But there can be discussion keeping aside court verdict," he added.
