Chennai: Rise in IIT-M pre-placement offers
Chennai: Indicating a good placement season, IIT Madras has witnessed an increase in pre-placement offers (PPOs) with 130 students receiving offers from major companies in the current academic year.
The placement season across IITs will start on December 1. Even before the placement season, companies give offer letters to students who have performed well during their internships.
Last year, students of IIT Madras received 118 offers before the placement season. This year major recruiters in core, research and development sectors including Qualcomm, Samsung R and D have offered jobs.
One of the main reasons for the increase in pre-placement offers is the robust internship programme of IIT Madras.
“The internships are facilitated through an Institute-coordinated process. The constant increase in PPOs is the result of the excellent performance of students during the internships. The good number of PPOs is hopefully indicative of a strong placement season,” said Professor Manu Santhanam, advisor, Training and Placement, IIT Madras.

“A good number of companies visiting our department provide pre-placement offers to our students during their summer internships. We constantly strive to invite and work with firms that offer challenging projects and multiple job profiles to our students,” said Professor Usha Mohan, placement coordinator, department of management studies, IIT Madras.
During the last four years, the pre-placement offers received by IIT Madras students continuing to increase from 69 offers in 2015-16 to 130 offers in 2018-19.
