Chennai: Centre must intervene for its own security, says PMK

The biggest concern is that four days after the political coup in Lankan country took place.

Chennai: PMK has urged the Indian government to intervene in Sri Lankan political turmoil to find out a solution, as there is a big security threat to India.

In a statement on Monday, PMK-founder Dr S Ramadoss said, “the political confusions in the Island nation crop up day by day. Under such a condition, India remains passive, while other countries strongly condemned Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena for his unconstitutional activity, in which he replaced Prime Minister Ranil Wickiramasinghe with Lankan strongman Rajapakse.”

Stating that even UN has warned Sri Lankan country for crippling Parliament activity, Ramadoss said, “this is a murder of democracy executed by Sirisena and Rajapaksa and if such situation is continuing, the value of democracy would be in peril.”

“India has a big responsibility in protecting welfare of Tamils and ensure the democracy is prevailing in Sri Lanka. Further, India should also make sure democracy is instilled. The biggest concern is that four days after the political coup in Lankan country took place, Indian leaders maintain stoney silence,” the PMK leader noted. While India has said that it was closely monitoring the political development, the US, which has no link with Sri Lanka, warned stating that the Island nation should decide whether who is lawful prime minister by convening parliament.

“If Rajapaksa was made Prime Minister, it would pave the way for China to round up India through military force so that India must involve in the issue to protect security of the country and Tamils,” he noted.
