Congress leader Vinay Kulkarni faces arrest

CBI sleuths are actively pursuing the case, which was allegedly hushed up by the Siddaramaiah government.

Bengaluru: Mr Vinay Kulkarni, a former minister in the Congress government and a powerful leader from Dharwad, is likely to be taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the murder of Yogesh Gowda, a BJP leader.

CBI sleuths are actively pursuing the case, which was allegedly hushed up by the Siddaramaiah government. The CBI team has started the investigation in Dharwad district and is looking into the motive behind the murder. The killers arrested by the police have said that personal enmity was the reason.

Soon after the murder, protests were held across the district against the then Congress government for allegedly trying to hush up the case. During Assembly election campaigning, CM B.S. Yediyurappa had declared that if the BJP government came to power, Vinay Kulkarni would be put behind bars.

It is said that Yogesh Gowda had challenged Kulakarni's monopoly in the region.
