Three births say a lot about Telangana' health
Kothagudem: The woes of women in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district who gave birth to female babies on Friday are ample proof of the state of affairs.
In the first instance, 23-year-old Tejavat Kavita from 9th Milerai Thanda under Tekulapalli mandal was brought to the government hospital in Kothagudem on September 26 and she need a Caesarean section.
She gave birth to a female baby and on Friday, complained of pain in her stomach. The staff there were slow to respond. When she started crying due to the unbearable pain, she was rushed into the Intensive Care Unit and the staff tried to save her for some time. She was soon declared dead.
In the same hospital, another woman, Puja, delivered a female baby in an auto on the premises of the hospital. The 22-year-old resident of Medarbasti in Kothagudem complained of labour pains and when she was brought to the hospital, no member of the staff responded. She was allotted a bed after giving birth to her baby in the autorickshaw.
In the third incident, Erakala Suguna, 19, gave birth to a female baby in an oxen cart on the banks of Edumelikalavagu in Gundala mandal of Bhadradri district.
Suguna, a resident of Erakalagadda under Gundala mandal, experienced labour pains on Friday and was taken in an oxen cart to Gundala hospital as no vehicle was available.
They crossed the Kinnersani and reached Edumelikalavagu, a rivulet in Gundala mandal. Since the rivulet is in spate and the cart was unable to cross, a phone call was made for a 108 ambulance. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Suguna gave birth.
