Hyderabad: Rains hit festive mood
Hyderabad: Madhapur was battered by the heavy rains on Friday, a day before the Dasara festival. Chandanagar recorded 8 cm of rains within 12 hours, highest in the city. Quthbullapur, Amberpet, Gajularamaram and Goshamahal are other areas which received a heavy rainfall on Friday.
A thunderstorm warning up to October 1 has already been issued for the state. Water stagnation at Shilparamam dampened the festival mood. Traffic came to a halt from Nagarjuna Circle to Madhapur.
The Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital area was partially submerged.
Water logging at Shaikpet, BHEL, LB Nagar, Serilingampally, and Khairatabad blocked the traffic.
Heavy rains in the evening resulted in flooding of several thoroughfares in the Old City. Mir Firasat Ali Baqri, a Shia leader, complained that people had to wade through the knee-deep water in front of the Badeshahi Aashoorkhana, ImamBada Yakutpura and Bibi-Ka-Alawa.
The situation was no different in Dabeerpura, Purani Haveli, Tallabkatta, Engine Bowli, Bahadurpura, Chandrayangutta and Lalithabagh.
Due to the heavy rains, power supply was affected for a few hours during the evening.
