Hyderabad: A 11-year-old who was admitted to the Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital and Research Centre (DDHRC) in Vidyanagar for seizures, was allegedly administered fungus infected saline. The family members of Vamshi Krishna alleged that this worsened his condition.
Inspector V. Yadagiri Reddy of Nallakunta police station said that they noticed a black coloured material inside the saline bottle used for the boy. The saline bottle was manufactured by a Pune based firm, in July 2016, and its expiry date was June 2019. This could be the result of improper storage.
The hospital said that the fluid needle was connected to the body for 32 seconds but the connector which allows the passage of the liquid was not turned on.
“The saline would not have entered the boy’s body,” a doctor said. The company that supplied the saline bottle has been informed about the incident and the hospital management is conducting an inquiring.
Resident Medical Officer M. Umapati Ramprasad said that the saline may not have been stored in a proper place.
