Vishakhapatnam: Minister for tourism Muttamsetti Srinivas (Avanti) sought to know from TD chief, N Chandrababu Naidu, whether his party was in favour of Visakhapatnam as the executive capital or not.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, he said that Andhra Pradesh suffered to a great extent during bifurcation, especially having lost Hyderabad. Regional conflicts were inevitable if development was concentrated in one place, he said. Such conflicts could be averted by decentralisation and more importantly Visakhapatnam boasts of the infrastructure that befits an executive capital, he said.

Srinivas was reacting to the Uttarandha Rakshana Vedika, a programme launched by senior TD leaders here on Monday, to highlight the north Andhra backwardness. He said that choosing Visakhapatnam was not a hasty decision, unlike the previous government, which selected Amaravati as the capital city for political gains. He said Naidu had done nothing for North Andhra except betraying the people.

Srinivas said that the government is committed to develop the North Andhra region, which is evidenced by various development projects that have been earmarked for the region, including establishing quality educational institutions and multispecialty hospitals in tribal areas. He reminded that the credit for providing 75 per cent jobs to locals goes to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
