Used ‘lighting cells’ trigger panic in Anumanthapuram
Chennai: Less than a week after an unidentified object exploded in Tiruporur Gangai Kondan temple, the city police on Thursday secured explosive materials near Anumanthapuram in Chengalpet. This triggered panic among the local residents.
According to the police, on Thursday morning, the residents of Anumanthapuram village alerted the local police as they found huge cylindrical iron materials near erikarai (lake bed). They alleged that the rods were not present at the spot on the previous day. The Maraiamalai Nagar police, revenue officials and the bomb squad came to the spot and secured the iron rods. Speaking to DC, a police officer from Maraimalai Nagar police station said that those rods were nothing but ‘lighting cells’ used in the Army. They help ignite the light in the army camp during the nights and they cannot be reused.
However, the Maraimalai Nagar police registered a case and are investigating to find out who dumped the used cells near the lake bed in Anumanthapuram. Recently, an unidentified object, suspected to be a country bomb found in the Tiruporur Gangai Kondan temple pond blew up and killed two persons in Mamampati village.
