Super speciality hospitals to be built in seven ITDAs

The tribal university will come up at Saluru while the Tribal Medical College will be set up in Paderu

VIJAYAWADA: In line with its commitment towards the development of the backward areas, the Andhra Pradesh government will set up a tribal university, a medical college and an engineering college in agency areas besides building super speciality hospitals in the seven ITDAs.

In a review meeting on social, tribal and minority welfare held here on Thursday, Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to check if basic amenities were in place in the hostels and residential schools for the weaker sections.

The number of hostels would be increased wherever there was a demand besides filling up the vacant posts in the hostels, the CM promised. There were 927 posts of cooks and watchmen in 309 hostels across the state.

The Chief Minister has asked the officials to ensure that the toilets in the hostels were clean and to see that the blankets and other material used in the hostels were clean and hygienic.

The tribal university will come up at Saluru while the Tribal Medical College will be set up in Paderu. Kurupam will get the Tribal Engineering College. Super speciality hospitals will be set up at ITDAs of Araku, Palakonda, Parvathipuram, Rampachodavram, Chinturu, KR Puram and Dornala.

There would be separate commissions for SCs and STs, the Chief Minister said, adding that a law to this effect will come out soon. The review meeting was attended by officials of the concerned departments.
