Alappuzha all set to host Nehru Trophy tomorrow
Alappuzha: Alappuzha is all set to host Nehru Trophy Boat Race and debut Champions Boat League (CBL) to be held on Saturday.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate th4e race at at 2 pm. Cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar will be the chief guest. State ministers, local MPs and MLAs will also be present on the occasion, according to the district administration.
The NTBR, usually held on the second Saturday of August, had been rescheduled owing to heavy rains that wreaked havoc across the state.
As many as 81 boats including 24 snake boats would participate in the event. Nine teams out of 24 will contest for the title of debut Champions Boat League which will be kicked off along with NTBR while three will attend for display contest.
The race of snake boats will be flagged off at 3.15 pm and the prize distribution for the winners will be conducted at 5.30 pm. The races will be broadcast live by Star Sports 2, Star Sports 2 HD, Star Sports 1 Tamil, Asianet Worldwide, Asianet Plus, Hotstar, ETV Andhra Pradesh and ETV Telangana.
