Hyderabad: Charges filed in nala scam

City police Detective Department DCP Avinash Mohanty said, “Contractors and engineers conspired together and cheated the GHMC.\"

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Central Crime Station has filed chargesheets in the Nampally Criminal Court against GHMC engineers and contractors who are alleged to have siphoned off funds meant for clearing the silt in the nalas by falsifying bills.

At least 23 engineers and 27 contractors will now have to face trial for creating fake bills for nala de-silting work. The CCS has collected evidence from the Road Transport Authority on how scooters have been shown as trucks and charged accordingly, and how fake way bills have been produced from weighing bridges.

City police Detective Department DCP Avinash Mohanty said, “Contractors and engineers conspired together and cheated the GHMC. They did not desilt the nalas but claimed bills for doing so. In several instances they used the registration number of a bike or scooter, but mentioned it as a truck and the engineers passed the bills. We have filed chargesheets in the court against all these contractors and engineers of GHMC.”

Around Rs 1.8 crore has been illegally paid to contractors with the active collusion of the engineers as part of pre-monsoon work in Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Karwan, Mehdipatnam, and Musheerabad.
