Gujarat quota' stay to continue

Three-judge Bench of T.S. Thakur and Justices A.M. Kanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud had on Augt 22 stayed the Gujarat HC order till Monday.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday extended by another two weeks its interim order staying a Gujarat High Court judgment quashing the 10 per cent quota ordinance for economical weaker sections in the State on the same condition that the State should not make admissions for general category students under the 10 per cent quota.

Though a three-judge Bench of Chief Justice T.S. Thakur and Justices A.M. Kanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud had on August 22 stayed the Gujarat HC order till Monday. On a request made by the Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi for extending the stay on the same terms, the bench agreed and posted the matter for further hearing after two weeks.
