Mulugu MLA Seethakka seeks Rs 25 lakh for kin of dead in floods

Warangal: Mulugu MLA D. Anasuya, popularly known as Seethakka, has demanded that the state government release ₹25 lakh to family members of those who had died in recent floods following heavy rains.

She visited one of the worst affected Burgupeta village in Venkatapur mandal of Mulugu district on Sunday. As immediate help, she handed over ₹10,000 each to family members of three persons who had died in the floods. She distributed 50-kg rice bags and daily needs to 32 badly affected families.

Due to heavy rains, the Maredugunda Cheruvu between Burgupeta and Lakshmidevipeta villages filled to the brim with flood water. However, the bund of the tank breached and three villagers of Burgupeta were washed away while the entire village got submerged in flood water.

The three, whose bodies were found later, have been identified as Banda Saraiah, Saramma and Rajamma.

Speaking after distributing essentials to affected families and handing over ex-gratia to kin of the deceased, Seethakka wanted the state government to sanction ₹25 lakh to family members of those who have lost their lives and construct double-bedroom houses for families whose houses have got badly damaged.

Further, she asked officials to survey the damage to crops in Burgupeta and Lakshmidevipeta villages and sanction compensation. She wanted that the road linking the villages, which got damaged in rains, be repaired immediately.
