Only son of Nawab Moazzam Jah passes away
Hyderabad: Shahmat Jah Bahadur, grandson of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan and the only son of Moazzam Jah Bahadur (1907-1987), passed away in the city on Sunday after a brief illness at the age of 68.
Shahmat Jah was born in 1955 to Moazzam Jah, second son of the last Nizam, and princess Anwari Begum. He was residing in Toli Chowki in his final years. Sahmat Jah was the first cousin of Mukarram Jah.
City based historian Dr Mohammad Safiuallah told Deccan Chronicle, “Shahmat Jah was a poet of eminence in Urdu, with a number of his collections being published. He was an alumni of the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet. He was suffering from illness and passed away in the afternoon on Sunday.”
The funeral will be held at Masjid-e-Judi in King Koti after the Isha prayers.
This was the second death in the Nizam’s family in the past seven months. Mukarram Jah had passed away in Istanbul in Turkey on January 14.
Shahmat Jah is survived by three sisters Princess Fatima Fouzia, Princess Amina Merzia, Princess Oolia Kulsum.
