Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed the city on Friday, water-logging many roads and bringing traffic to a standstill for more than an hour.
The Indian Meteorological Department issued a yellow warning with thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at isolated places in few districts of the state. The warning was for the districts of Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Kamareddy and Siddipet near the city as also Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Mulugu, Jagtial, Suryapet, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal and Nagarkurnool in the next 24 hours.
On Friday, the Golconda area recorded 20.8 mm rainfall, the highest in the city, weather officials said. Chandur in Nizamabad recorded the highest rainfall of 102.5 mm in the state.
The average highest recorded rainfall in the state was in Adilabad at 15.5 mm, followed by Bhadradri Kothagudem at 14.5 mm and Malkajgiri at 10.4 mm.
The city is expected to have a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rains or thundershowers very likely to occur in parts of the city for the next 48 hours.
