Ex-AIADMK MP’s son arrested for killing mom
Chennai: Three months after the gruesome murder of late ex- AIADMK MP's wife in Besant Nagar, his son Praveen was nabbed in New Delhi, by a special team of Shastri Nagar police.
A team from the Shastri Nagar police station in Chennai, led by inspector P. M. Pazhavesam, traced Praveen to Aruna Nagar in Delhi, with the help of his mobile number.
“He had been working as an employee of a private firm in Delhi. He was produced at a magistrate court there. He will be brought to Chennai,” said a police officer. However, only after interrogation, we will be able to find why he murdered his mother, police said.
The wife of former Thiruchengodu AIADMK MP Kulandaivelu was found murdered at her Besant Nagar house on the night of April 14. It was suspected that her son Praveen (35) murdered his mother Rathinam, as she had made a distress call to her daughter minutes before the murder, and complained that her son was trying to murder her, demanding his share in the family property. Rathinam disconnected the call abruptly on the night of murder.
On April 15, Rathinam was found dead by relatives in the city. Praveen had been missing since then.
Based on a complaint filed by Rathinam's daughter, Sudha, who resides in Tirupur, Shastri Nagar police registered a case. A special team was formed and a lookout notice was issued against Praveen. However, a month later, police arrested auto driver Sathya Jyothi and his wife, Rani, for sheltering the accused case. A special team was worked and a lookout notice was issued against him.
