Chennai: Ishari Ganesh gets HC Reprieve

In his affidavit, Ishari Ganesh submitted that he has utmost regard and respect for the administration of justice by this court.

Chennai: Recording the unconditional apology tendered by Ishari K.Ganesh, a well known owner of educational institutions, film producer and actor and also his voluntary offer to contribute Rs 10 lakh to the Legal Services Authority, the Madras high court has closed a contempt proceedings initiated against him and another person for having attempted to influence a judge of the Madras high court through a common acquaintance and thereby disrupting the South Indian Artistes Association election.

A division bench comprising Justices M.M.Sundresh and M.Nirmal Kumar said today when the matter is taken up for hearing the contemnors Ishari Ganesh and one Anantharaman are present as directed earlier. The First Contemnor (Ishari K Ganesh) has voluntarily offered to contribute Rs 10 lakh to the Legal Services Authority. “We acknowledge and record the same”, the bench added.

The bench said the said amount will have to be paid within 2 weeks. The State Legal Services Authority will have to create a separate head account for utilization of the amount styled as Victim Compensation Fund (Rehabilitation of Transgender and for Abandoned Children). Sufficient fund will have to be allocated out of the funds to the District Legal Services Authority, Chennai, which was dealing with large number of cases involving the issues pertaining to Transgender and Abandoned Children, the bench added and closed the contempt proceedings initiated against Ishari K Ganesh and Anantharaman.

In his affidavit, Ishari Ganesh submitted that he has utmost regard and respect for the administration of justice by this court. He has never interfered with the administration of justice at any point of time. He had not requested Anantharaman, the second contemnor to seek any adjournment of any case in this court nor wanted to influence the course of the proceedings through Anantharaman. “I hereby tender unconditional apology to this court for the unfortunate incident that has happened on June 22, 2019 without my knowledge” he added.

In his affidavit, Anantharaman also tendered unconditional apology.
