BMTC driver assaulted, injured by gang of eight

The incident occurred at 7.45 pm when Naveen was driving the bus attached to the Kathriguppe bus depot between ITPL and Banashankari.

Bengaluru: A gang of eight men attacked a BMTC driver on Sunday night at Sangam Circle in Jayanagar in a clear case of road rage.

The driver, Naveena D., 36, is a resident of Ramanagara. The Jayanagar police have launched a hunt for the car owner whose car bears the registration number KA 05 MX 5099 and his seven associates in connection with the attack.

The incident occurred at 7.45 pm when Naveen was driving the bus attached to the Kathriguppe bus depot between ITPL and Banashankari.

It is said that the car came in front of the bus all of a sudden and the driver stopped his vehicle. He shouted at the bus driver for not giving enough space to move.

In the police complaint, Naveen said the car driver started yelling at him using abusive language. The car driver then called his associates to the spot, and six men arrived on bikes. They barged into the bus, dragged Naveen out and rained blows on him, the complaint stated.

The accused hit Naveen on his right ear, hand, right eye and slapped him on his right cheek. Naveen said in his complaint that he was also hit on his mouth and he started bleeding profusely. His white uniform too got soaked in blood.

Naveen was rescued by his bus conductor colleague Muttappa with the help of some people and shifted him to Jayanagar Public Hospital. Naveen told the police that he has clearly seen the attackers and can identify them.

The Jayanagar police have registered a case under IPC Sections 143, 147, 323, 372, 332, 341, 353 and 149. A hunt is on for the accused.
