HYDERABAD: Six persons were killed, among them a five-year-old, and four injured, when a car they were travelling in from the city to Nagarjunasagar rammed into the wall of a bus stop in neighbouring Nalgonda district early on Sunday. The condition of one of the injured is stated to be critical, the police said.
The accident took place at about 6.05 am at Narsapally, about 70 km from Hyderabad, in Chintapalli mandal of Nalgonda district.
The victims, including two women and a five-year-old boy, were part of a 30-member party that was heading for a picnic at Nagarjunsagar in three vehicles. They had started off from the city at about 4 am. “The driver told us that he swerved to the right to avoid hitting a dog which had strayed on the road. Apparently, he lost control over the vehicle and rammed into the wall of the bus stop at Narsapally,” Nampally inspector R. Prabhakar Reddy said.
The six victims were identified as Mohd Mustafa, 30, Mohd Akbar, 25, Mohd Moin, 45, who did private jobs and home makers Akhtar Begum, 50, and Asiya Begum, 50, and five-year-old Mohd Tahamu. Their family members who were in the other vehicles immediately rushed to rescue. “While the child died on the spot, Moin, Abbas and Mustafa died while being shifted to the Osmania General Hospital. Asiya and Akhtar died at the hospital,” the inspector said.
Four others, including Noori, who was seriously injured, are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the city. The vehicle had been rented and was being driven by one Mazher, who was among the injured. The inspector said that the driver might have been driving at high speed which could have resulted in loss of control over the vehicle. “The vehicle hit a big boulder and then collided with the wall,” the inspector said.
The police is seeking help of the Road Transport Authority officers to ascertain if the vehicle had any problems that could have caused the accident. The postmortem was conducted at the Osmania General Hospital and bodies were handed over the family.
