Thrissur: Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath has slammed the media for what he termed as a massive campaign against the church challenging the basic tenets of faith.
Speaking at a media day event of the diocese here on Sunday, the Catholic prelate expressed apprehensions on how some sections of devotees were supporting such a campaign intended at maligning all the institutions of the church. He said to protest such campaigns, a meeting of the faithful will be held in Thrissur on August 5.
His reaction comes in the wake of a flurry of allegations of rape and sexual escapades some priests and bishops.
It is unacceptable that for some isolated incidents, people have started challenging the confessional and even priesthood on social media and due to competition among the media houses, fake stories were being made up against the church, the archbishop said.
The diocese has also issued a circular citing that all those associated with the church needed to be aware of such campaigns and defeat them.
