Projects sanctioned before split, says Telangana government

It also demanded more allocation from the Godavari and a share in the Godavari waters being diverted to the Krishna basin in AP.

Hyderabad: The TS government on Saturday complained to the Centre regarding several river projects being taken up by its AP counterpart.

The TS government wanted the Centre to review the Godavari water allocations between the two states as several ongoing projects in AP did not find a mention in the bifurcation Act. It also demanded more allocation from the Godavari and a share in the Godavari waters being diverted to the Krishna basin in AP.

On July 1, the AP government had complained to the Centre and asked it to stop the TS government from construction of projects like Palamuru Rangareddy, Dindi lift irrigation schemes (using Krishna waters) and Bhakta Ramadas and Tummilla lift irrigation schemes using Godavari waters. Besides, AP had earlier filed a petition against the Kaleswaram project.

TS irrigation special chief secretary S.K. Joshi contended that the projects mentioned by the AP government had been sanctioned before state bifurcation. The TS government mentioned a few projects taken up the AP government that it alleged were violating procedures and were being executed without approval by either the Krishna or Godavari river management boards.

The Pattiseema (lift scheme to supply Godavari water to Krishna Delta), Purushottapatnam (lift scheme to supply water to Yeleru and Visakhapatnam), Muchumarri lift scheme (to supplement the Kurnool-Cuddapah canal) had been taken up AP in violation of rules, it said.

The TS government said AP was taking up new constructions like Munneru scheme (using Krishna waters), Shiva-bhasyam lift scheme in Kurnool, Guru Ragha-vendra lift scheme to augment supplies under Tungabhadra Low Level Canal project, Gund-revula reservoir and Puli Kanuma reservoir to utilise more waters from the Tungabhadra, supplementation scheme for Gajuladinne ayacut, Siddapuram lift scheme under Telugu Ganga project which were not mentioned before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-2 earlier.
