Find schools with no roads: DEO
Hyderabad: The education department of Telangana issued a notice to all the district collectors and education officers to identify schools with low enrollment rates especially due to less road connectivity and lack of transportation facilities. Officials were also asked to identify schools with easy accessibility to initiate shifting of students. A senior official from the education department says, “The dropout rate in many schools at rural areas is high due to inaccessibility. Schools are unable to provide transport because of lack of roads. We believe that if the students are shifted to schools which are easily accessible, it will make a difference and will also encourage parents for school enrollment.”
The notice states that many district education officers have issued orders regarding the same which has led to widespread confusion and the misconception that the government is closing down the schools. Officials clarified that this step was to ensure that no child’s education is hampered especially for those from rural areas. While speaking about the recent notice, a DEO said, “The plan is still in proposal stage and there is already a lot of confusion regarding merger or closure of schools. We have a list of schools with less than twenty students and have identified the inaccessibility to some of them.
