Pregnant dog attacked with acid, 3 stray dogs poisoned in Secunderabad
Hyderabad: A pregnant dog was killed with acid and three other strays died of poisoning in Yapral, Secunderabad on Friday.
This attack on the four dogs is the third incident of animal cruelty in Hyderabad in less than two weeks. The Humane Society International, India, has now offered a reward of up to Rs 50,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the persons involved.
An FIR was registered by Ms Annamma Joseph with the Jawahar Nagar police, Balaji Nagar, Yapral and post-mortems have been ordered on the dogs.
Ms Joseph, a resident of Yapral who had been regularly feeding the dogs, noticed the three strays crying in pain when she returned home in the evening on July 28. Another dog, which was full-term pregnant, had acid thrown on its face.
“The pregnant dog was seven years old; the strays have been living close to my residence since they were puppies, I fed them every day. They never attacked anyone in Sai Krupa Colony nor caused any harm. In fact they protected us. However, many didn’t like the idea of me feeding them and a few people had even warned of killing them. All four dogs died on Friday,” she said. Ms C. Samyukta of the Humane Society International – India, who has offered the reward, said, “It can only be someone with a sick mind who would torture harmless dogs. At least one case of animal cruelty is reported every week and the way the crime was committed leaves us aghast. This only proves that an immediate increase in penalties against animal cruelty is absolutely necessary. We encourage anyone who has information in this case to come forward. The identity of the informant will be kept confidential.”
